Staff
Development is CHILD’S PLAY! prides itself in the quality of our staff. We recruit the best possible candidates who are professionally trained and skilled in engaging children in the therapeutic process. Then, we provide extensive supervision and mentoring to further develop the skills of our therapists. All clinical staff have degrees in occupational therapy, have passed a national exam and are licensed in California to provide occupational therapy. Some staff are additionally certified to treat swallowing disorders. The majority of the staff at Development is CHILD’S PLAY! is certified or in the process of obtaining certification in the evaluation and treatment of sensory processing disorders. Therapists may have other additional training in feeding issues, neurodevelopmental treatment, auditory interventions (e.g. therapeutic listening), fine motor issues (e.g. handwriting programs) and other techniques. We train interns and provide advanced training in sensory integration intervention for international occupational therapists. Staff members are or have been board members for the Santa Clara Chapter of the Occupational Therapy Association of California and the Bay Area Association of Pediatric Therapists.

About the Director:
Teri Wiss, M.A., O.T.R./L. has been a pediatric occupational therapist since 1982. She has worked for school districts, public and private clinics and in private practice. Her undergraduate work was completed at Texas Woman’s University and she received her Master’s degree from the University of Southern California. Ms. Wiss completed advanced training in developmental disorders at the USC/Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles-University Affiliated Program and in sensory integration at the Ayres Clinic in Torrance, CA. She taught pediatrics in the occupational therapy program at San Jose State University and lectured for Sensory Integration International. She has researched, lectured and published in the areas of learning disabilities, autism and Asperger’s Disorder, visual attention, and sensory integration. Ms. Wiss is certified in the administration and interpretation of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests. In 2009 the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) gave Ms. Wiss the Award of Excellence in Occupational Therapy. This award recognizes a member of OTAC who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of occupational therapy in the area(s) of therapeutic practice, education, research, administration, organizational and community service.
